Have A Very Metal Xmas

Not posted any metal covers in a while and this thread at Boing Boing prompted me to go digging – the video that provoked it was a fairly meh Sabbath parody – as we’ll see there have been a lot better and far more METAL than that!

Starting out is something from late last Xmas I’ve just found, Psychostick’s Zombie Claus, a Yuletide parody of Rob Zombie’s Dragula with a great video.

Someone posted that Wham Last Christmas/Slayer mashup that has been doing the rounds by Bill McClintock – been bugging me for ages and I have found the mashup last year that I think did the first Last Christmas vs Slayer by Andy Rehfeldt.

It’s a different Slayer vocal but essentially the same idea, even though Bill did his Wham – Everything She Wants vs Slayer first. And bonus! No speeding up or slowing down, that bugs me when people slow the instrumental down to fit, it really doesn’t work for me – hence not playing or featuring it. Sorry Bill.

Slayer bonus: Jingle of Death – Angel of Death vs Jingle Bells. Is Tom Araya actually the Metal Santa we all need?

Need to watch Aggretsuko, the death metal karaoke office panda, but this sums up being trapped in work at Xmas! Thanks to OpusFluke who mentioned this in the thread along with the death metal Silent Night posted below.

Also given the thread was inspired by Sabbaf, there is a band doing purely festive Black Sabbath – (White Solstice/Saturnalia?) covers called Santa Sabbath. Again many of these would have been in the podcast if I had found them earlier! Here is their ‘paranoid’ cover of Frosty The Snowman, and then from their Bandcamp ‘Sweet Tree’ which is pretty self-explanatory. Thanks to Ryan_Smith for that nod.

But this idea of festive Sabbath before that is not new – I posted this mashup from way back by ToTom for Santastic Two – 2006 who mixed again Paranoid with Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer by Dean Martin and The Crystals:

And well before that, Bob Rivers who has been featured here many times on Bah Humbug compilations and the podcasts did his version of Iron Man with a festive twist…I had not seen the video before! Thanks to lastchance for reminding me.

Death Metal carolling anyone?

And lastly after posting that Trans Siberian Orchestra mashup by DJ Cummerbund, it was also bugging me again that I remembered an earlier TSO metal mashup – turns out it was Voicedude back on the original Santastic – 2005? Love the use of Simpsons still.

I miss those compilations. They are all still up over at djBC’s site including a few entries from yours truly.
