Mash of the Titans 10 mashup compilation gas mask Panos T bastard pop bootleg cover

Mash of the Titans

After the deluge of albums on Friday I took a while to check out the rest, and was surprised by the Panos T compilation ‘Mash of the Titans 10’.

Sure there are heavy doses of EDM mash and pop that isn’t my usual thing – but given it’s Pride month, and sunny my pop tolerance is higher, Really liked the Lobsterdust track ‘VIPs Back In Time’ (should he be talking about past times given his Lobsterrant? 😉 which has a mix of Portishead, Moby’s Praise You, Skrillex and Don Diablo – I was not expecting the Portishead drop.

I liked Logan’s Ava Max vs woman of the moment, Dua Lipa, and Adamusic’s again Dua Lipa vs the Whitney classic, those are keepers as is Tufos Mashups ‘Swish’ – a very Pride friendly track but also with London flavour, surprised to hear Tinie Tempah in there.

And I really love the vocal interplay of Shashar Vashal’s Head over Midnight, I mean who doesn’t love the Miley Cyrus vs Stevie Nicks collab, but with added Tears for Fears and Earth Wind And Fire, showing how similar those vocals are.

That’s a definite for the podcast, like the Lobsterdust (just to explain there are two levels, there are keepers that I add to my iTunes and listen to further and keep for future sets and are ‘maybes’ for the podcast, and players – tracks that directly go into the ‘to play’ folder, those two three were the definites).

And I guess this is the last release from oneboredjeu? Sad to hear she is retiring after many years.

And the moody T10MO ‘We Love, We Die – Part 2’ is a keeper, I think that might be a grower. It’s a very dark lockdown-eque track, again I get a cinematic trip-hop feel, but I don’t know the tracks used so it’s less instant with me as others. Love the feel though, and the message ‘We are not alive, We are surviving every time’ about depression is very current. This was the only one I immediately did a rewind and re-listened to it, then checked the Aurora original to see how different it was and then added to the definites list, that’s not what I was expecting at all.

Not all keepers and only 3/19 are players but I’d be surprised given the majority of sources (I am allergic to most modern EDM unless it’s donk or Bangface hardcore! Euphoric house depresses me, and I prefer genre clash and I am not a massive fan of multimashes) but a very well produced album and perfect for any Pride Lockdown parties. Although the last track might be a downer (I love downtempo melancholic tracks so perfect for me)

And it’s all way better than White Panda’s album and didn’t cost $100k!
