Bootie’s Fleetwood Mashed

Finally Adriana has finished the long-awaited Fleetwood Mac mashup compilation, Fleetwood Mashed.

I know this has been decades in the making – we discussed this back in 2009 when I was making my own Fleetwood Mac mashup album, which had a rather limited scope compared to her 38 track Tusk-level behemoth! In fact glad to see three of the songs have made the cut from that, as well as my Her Breath Is The Wind Sia vs Rhiannon mashup. Also great to see one of my favourite mashups of modern times, DJ Lex’s Dream Circles get included.

Having made many FM mashups over the years, I know how impossible it is to work with the legacy of the Mac – such a long diverse career and I was worried I’d get 50 Dreams or Rhiannon mashups. Oddly Don’t Stop, Go Your Own Way, World Turning and Gold Dust Woman are comparatively neglected – and so I know how hard it is select across their history without focusing just on the Rumours era. Looking at the tracklist, this has done a good job of representing those pop bangers and also the other sides to FM.

Apart from maybe not so much from the Tango era, but there is a really good reason for that: nothing has leaked from those sessions, I guess Lindsey has an iron lock on those stems. And extraction doesn’t work that well – I know, Everywhere and Big Love is my go-to test track for every advance in acapella and instrumental extraction and to press, not that great, sadly. So that’s why there are very few Tango era mashups.
