Kylie Minogue Marc Johnce album KM mashup bootleg bastard pop

Marc Johnce – KM Kylie Minogue album

And another album released on Friday was the long-awaited KM by Marc Johnce (and a few collaborators). He’s been teasing this for ages, and is obviously a massive Kylie Minogue fan, and I have been loving some of the mashups he’s been releasing to promote this.

People asked if a whole Montero mashup album was too much – no, but one song I can kind of get that, but two Kylie Minogue albums is very welcome – especially as she has had such a rich career. I hope Marc doesn’t get the welcome I got for mashing Kylie Minogue – my first Cease and Desist (me and Adriana talked about this on the Weekly Chat as well)

And ready for Pride – the 100% Degrees with Dannii vs Dua Lipa is perfect float music – given that Dua is very much compared as the new Kylie, it works so well. As does The Weeknd with Kylie in a more downtempo mode, twice in fact with Blinding Flowers and Save Your Lovers – and Dua again in Break My Real Groove.

What’s that? Pop vs Pop mashups? With MY reputation? Well the thing is I am not 100% opposed to pop vs pop – if people match feel or lyrics, or they just work so well it doesn’t matter. The big issue I have with big current hit vs current big hit is they usually don’t have any thematic or mood/feel link. Also with two new tracks, hard to read as a mashup.

Also era clash is a thing, which a lot of these have – era clashed pop, i.e. taking pop from one decade and mixing it with another, the difference gives it more of a mashup feel I think.
