Departure – Personal Therapy

Sometimes you hear a mix and you can feel there is something deeper, that it had to be made and reflects the turbulent times and something inside them. The aptly named ‘Personal Therapy – of Foreign Affair, from False Acquaintances’ is one of those, described by departure as ‘A collection of my built and pent up emotions into one, 32 minute and 32 second mix consisting of separate movements and acts.’

I can’t speak for them, but I feel it reflects my personal turmoil over Ukraine and the state of the world, my current confusion and fears very well. It’s a very reflective plunderphonic album, with elements of vaporwave and stretched vocals but feels far from the gentle soundscape that would suggest.

It includes one of my current faves, I Feel Like Vishnu which like future album track? Feeling Love from 361 is earmarked for play on one of the upcoming podcasts. I love how it comes in and out, in parts (as does this whole mix) but still feels like a whole? That is hard to pull off.

An unsettling listen in places, quite experimental in others, but an important one. Some things need to be spoken.
