Low White Horses video indie Duluth Minnesota band Hey What Album

Low Hey What / White Horses video

I see the Low album ‘Hey What’ is now out. Go buy it, kids!

Seriously, it’s better than Double Negative – which was great and on par to Ones And Sixes in modern Low albums that I love greatly. Which is admittedly a long list, but this is a good one. Don’t miss it,

I did try and write this mini-review without the words ‘haunting’ and ‘apocalyptic’ and ‘sonic cathedrals’ and completely failed…

Favourites are the haunting ‘Don’t Walk Away’ which means a lot to me, resonates with my life deeply at the moment for reasons I’d rather not go into. There’s the apocalyptic ‘Days Like These’ and brooding “White Horses’ which you can see the video above.

‘Hey’ sounds like Daniel Lopatin meets Mazzy Star (who also sung about horses – Cheesy DJ Link Ed) vaulting through sunken sonic cathedrals of sound….(sorry that has to be the most pretentious thing I have written!)

‘The Price You Pay (It Must Be Wearing Off’ has a similar emotional heft as ‘When I Go Deaf’, a mix of angry and plaintive, but more mangled and battered like a post-COVID, post-Trump world? Like a lot of the album it sounds like the soundtrack to the last 18 months, hellish, sad, bitter/sweet, angry, confused, with paradoxical moments of beauty.

Anyway it’s good, I basically favourited almost the whole album!
