Really liking this fairly new podcast Shitty Mashups – ‘A Music Podcast For People Who Hate Music’, a weekly podcasy where Ian and Ryan face off in a mashup battle to make the best/worst mashup possible on a theme judged by Shane. Also there are wildcards where the other contestant can sabotage each other after the mashup is made.
Love the topical loose dystopian vibe (it’s set in a bunker under the Earth by three scientists with unlimited clones – official blurb “3 people living out a thousand lifetimes in the centre of the earth, attempting to destroy music for all humanity.”) and it’s very funny – from Simon & Garfunkel vs Jay-Z or Coldplay vs Scatman John and HIM.
In fact, one of the funny problems is despite trying to make the shittiest mashup they sometimes really succeed rather too well!
Also I totally co-sign Ryan’s dislike for Panic! at the Disco (episode 8)….as with MCR I really don’t get why there are so many PATD mashups. The newer mashup generation, basically the mashup children of Neil Cicierega love using those again and again, like the mid-00’s blog boom wasn’t bad enough the first time around? (That was the last gasp of the old music industry, where music press was still dominant, labels actually paid to develop bands and paid for blog promotion, even paid mashups, remember ‘new rave’ LOL?).
It’s totally true Brendon writes the same song again and again and repeats it…I mean one Fall Out Boy is bad enough, rather than a tribute act crossed with The Bravery*! 😛
*obscure references ahoy! The band The Killers accused of ‘copying’ them. Yeah the irony…
