Radio Clash 354: No Time To Spy James Bond Part 2 Music of Bond No Time To Die 25th Film covers mashups remixes hiphop downtempo ambient chilled

RC 354: No Time To Spy: James Bond No.2

James Bond is 25 and also No Time To Die is finally out later in the week in the UK – so after 18 months wait I’ve finished the Bond Show two parter – Part 1 started just as the Coronavirus hit, more than 18 months later we have the second part. Not the longest gap between parts of a podcast series here, but I think the longest for a planned two parter!

So we run a deep dive off a snowy cliff into the gadgety gamut of music from the soundtracks of 25 films (27 actually but EON doesn’t count two of them, but we do here.)

We have Secret Agents Billy Eilish, Madonna and Stevie Wonder spying for M15 on various mashups, intelligence on hiphop blends and remix gadgets from Wu-Tang to Street Smartz and Gladys Knight (!), coded parodies from Adam Buxton, Ukelele Orchestra, Ukranians and the Legendary Len Liggins (and probably Anthony Newley). And the evil Spectre Corporation even makes it’s presence known (boo!).

Shaken and stirred by drum and bond, dubfinger, Northern Soul espionage,. Japanese mambo 007, From Russia with Drones, psych ops, near misses from the archives, Italian High NRG bombs and Iggy calls time with a martini and an Aston Martin.

If you like this, there’s not only the first part – From Russia With Dub, but also before that a John Barry special with Ian Fondue of the Lloydbrary.

And bonus – if you’ve read this far I can also put in a few bits I missed from the podcast or didn’t have time to feature – like John Zorn’s completely crazy Bond Theme cover from the equally insane Naked City:

Then the very rare and hard to find Money Wedding by Walter Rizzatti – disco tastic and here with a Goldfinger intro, Italian disco at it’s best: Spent all that time tracking it down, then forgot to play it – DOH.

And not just Acen has sampled Space March…. Fenn O Berg has too, the combined forces of Fennesz / O’Rourke / Rehberg – this was in the original draft of this podcast that I missed and then found AFTER I had remade and re-recorded the podcast.

Like the Zorn, totally demented, and wish I’d remembered this. Not sure I’d have space for all 10 minutes though!
