Exightly

Occasionally you’ll come across a mashup artist who is very good, known in their sphere but weirdly not big elsewhere, and should be much bigger. Exightly is not a complete stranger to Radio Clash – featuring on the Xmas podcast two years ago #296 with the mashup embedded here – an ambitious mashup of Queen ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You

Freddie’s vocals are the Mount Everest of the mashup world along with the Beach Boys – big reason why I haven’t done many Queen mashes and admittedly ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is a difficult song because of it’s structure too. It is not 100% perfect as a result but again, it blows many of the current crop out of the water.

This has an eye-watering million views on YouTube – how did they manage to keep it up where I failed repeatedly? Scarey Xmas has had four DMCA’s now, and is currently back up, but it’s endless barrage from SME.

But it turns out since that, they have been busy!

I don’t know the J-Pop track ‘Plastic Love’ by Mariya Takeuchi) nor the Paramore but this combination of Paramore – Ain’t it Fun, Blondie – Heart of Glass andLana del Rey – Summertime Sadness is smooth. And anyone working with non-Western and Japanese music beyond the rather worn anime/games niche is fine by me. I have been calling for more people to widen their sources,

I mean I could live a million years and happily not hear another Drowning Pool/MCR/DMX/Eminem/Coldplay/Rammstein/Death Grips mashup. Including some of mine in the case of Em and D.G!

And the A vs B combo sounds like an original track to me….I wish more mashup artists did A vs B mashups rather than throwing in everything including the kitchen sink, because usually less is more. But in this case I like both.

And in a village deep in Uncanny Valley, this is the theme song – Muse’s Assassin vs Y.M.C.A. – Village People….what is happening?!
