And if all that gave you an appetite for what bastard pop was like back in the day, well you’re in luck, Cartel Mike of Bastard fame – the first mashup/bastard pop club worldwide in London, UK. He was interviewed for Pimpdaddysupreme’s Masters of Mash a few days ago, and you can still watch the interview.
I DJ’d at Bastard twice and was a regular from late 2003 til the end – and took a lot of photos – I was basically the unofficial club photographer for many of the Bastard and other related early mashup events.
We have covered Bastard and GYBO history many times here – even have a podcast interview from Mike and Jonny back then about French Bastard and the new venue Mike was talking about in the interview, but this new interview is a good primer of what went down. I second that Osymyso would be an amazing interviewee – get ready for the tea to be spilt though, Mark does not mince his words! Also great would be Cartel Jonny’s take, he’s a really funny guy.
