Obviously given the channel ‘Toy Galaxy’ this history of my biggest love, Ulysses 31 is slanted towards toys, but there is background to how U31 started. I have never seen the pilot, that’s big news, and a few things I didn’t know. One big thing is that the US didn’t really get Ulysses 31 mania, so I don’t know what the US mashup audience and producers make of DJNoNo? (video via DJ Lumpy)
And the comments lead me to an ever trippier US/Japan production which is new to me ‘Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea’ which seems to link Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysses 31 in the sense it has orichalcum in it – the legendary metal mentioned by Plato and linked to Atlantis. It is later than U31 and MCOG.
The US theme unlike the U31 is terrible, but the French version is trippy in sound and animation and feels like a French kids version of Yellow Submarine. Also all those characters called ‘Shag…’ in the French version, that does not translate! Sadly cannot find the English dub online…
