Artikal Sound System - Live Your Life vs Dua Lipa - Levitating copyright case

Dua Lipa’s Levitating ASS: aka how not to copy a song

Future Nostalgia is apparently copying a song from 2017….eh Dua Lipa?

Sound familiar? Artikal Sound System’s ‘Live Your Life’ is identical to Levitating, and was released on an EP in 2017 – called funnily enough ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. As Luxxury points out in his video, the choruses are identical, not even slightly different, same words in places, same tempo, waveforms look the same. They have sued Warners, the songwriters and Dua Lipa..

It’s hard to say this was accidental, from the intro chords onwards. The funny thing is, if we lift whole songs for mashups or remixes, we get legal shit. Warners do it and they get away with it for over a year and defended by the fans (see the comments on the Soundcloud song).

Weirdly I was reading the Dua Lipa Wikipedia with this gem from her now-ex manager:

“We’ve seen artists who might get half a good song out of 10 writing sessions; with Dua, one in five or one in four is a banger.”

Well she would if she or her writing team are nicking borrowing copying plagiarising being heavily inspired by other songs? *cough* (via Luxxury)
