Pop versions of Nine Inch Nails aren’t exactly new – PomDeter’s Call Me A Hole *ahem* but nice to see that Miley Cyrus and indeed Charlie Brooker get the pop side of Trent Reznor.
As I’ve said about some Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Ministry, some industrial songs could be perfect pop – they share far more in common than people think. In fact Laibach has made a career from that interface.
Obviously this is an advert for an episode of Black Mirror covering the creepy side of avatars and holograms, the virtual pop stars big in Japan. But I also love this cover! I suspect a lot of Miley fans are going to discover NIN all of a sudden….and yes Trent LOVES it. Why wouldn’t you?
Also Miley is a lot more sussed than people think, and has a lot more talent that her Hannah Montana past suggests.
