Unusually for a new(ish) shiny Web 2.0 music application, Spotify is only currently freely available in the UK – but you can get it outside of the UK with an invite (more in a sec)…but it’s basically a legal iTunes-type application you can listen to music for free (with ads)…and it has millions of tracks.
And now via Spotify DJ you can listen along to other people’s tracks: http://spotifydj.com/dj/timbearcub. Currently rocking afro-beat, Nigerian funk rock and disco, Fela/Femi/Seun Kuti and soca via Mr Fab’s suggestions on this very blog as well as kwaito, SA hiphop and mbaqanga.
I have 10 (now 9! And falling!) invites to Spotify to give out for those outside the UK…I didn’t think it was available in the US til later this year but looks like they’ve just made it invite-only for now [I was correct – see below].
EDIT: Looks like it’s only Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France or Spain currently – so if you’re in one of those let me know (or know how to get around that and want an account ;-). Apparently it is launching in the US later this year/early next year.
