Sounds Familiar?

From Nigeria 1966:

to London via Malawi, 2009:

Victor Uwaifo and The Very Best aka Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya (someone I’ve played on Radio Clash WAY back) will definitely be accompanying me on my iPod to Ethiopia and South Africa – I’m going on the 1st of November flying into Addis Abbaba, then going to Durban to stay with John’s sister on the 6th and back on the 12th.

An African Adventure!…taking loads of Fela/Femi Kuti, Brenda Fassie, Buraka Son Sistema and The Very Best…and will be on the look out for Afrobeat and local music while I’m there – any tips or recommendations gratefully received.

JEALOUS! I’ve heard about a SA rapper named Pitch Black Afro who sounds pretty nutty. Haven’t been able to find any of his stufft, so keep an eye out for him.

Thanks, that nationalgeographic.com link looks likely, don’t know how I missed that before.

Victor Uwaifo: Dig that outfit he’s wearing at the start of the clip, YOW!
