AI for Sample Spotting – Content ID +?

Fascinating article about how sample spotters (NERDS!) are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as Google Assistant, AI audio extraction and even iZotope RX to spot them.

Feels sort of like cheating, and the results for Face to Face are far from amazing. I meant Carrie Lucas and ELO in a Daft Punk track? WHO KNEW? (actually they were used before in other DP pieces – although the Loggins Pooh Corner spot is a surprise, that the vocal is saying Christopher Rob(ins) and of course our old friend Alan Parsons for the vocal repeats).

But I’m guessing those who thought their micro-samples and glitching were safe are going to have some sleepless nights….(psst – there is no legal exemption for even the tiniest of samples, although I doubt individual drum hits will be an issue because the idea of uniqueness comes into play there)

As others have said, it could herald a new form of Content ID that can spot something down to less than a second, even flipped, reversed, glitched, stretched or totally mangled.

But as I said in my first ever #mashupmeme – Daft Punk aint that impressive, try Boards of Canada’s Geogaddi. That’s expert mode!
