Radio Clash 362: Streaming For One - Twitch podcast eclectic music mix DJ jungle punk cover

RC 362: Streaming For One

The loneliness of the long-distance streamer – after the streaming goes wrong….

This is not the version announced here, as that had severe technical issues so after that run through I re-recorded it late on a Monday night solely to an audience of Russian bots.

Not sure there will be another ‘Radio Clash Live’ for a while because there still is issues with it – pops and some of the same weird distortion I had issues with on the full run-through….and I got sick of doing the same podcast repeatedly for tests (I did vary it with some future podcasts, but it was mostly this one). The real problem is I want to record the podcast AND stream it AND hear myself in my headphones AND hear my mixing. It’s possible with 2 out of 4 or even 3 out of 4 of those. 4 out of 4 has real issues even with using another computer to stream.

And I don’t know why – it’s not CPU issues since the real hog is streaming and that’s on the smaller laptop, and the recording AND the stream had the weird noise, so it’s this machine,

I fear it’s that even more outboard gear is needed (after already buying a couple of new mics and an interface!), stuff I don’t have space or money for. Anyone got a USB mixer with sends I can borrow? Either that or will have to wait for when I get the new laptop.

Anyway I found the whole experience stressful and not the quality level that I’m happy with – there’s a feeling that streaming and podcasting are two different things and should not mix. If I was a co-hosted podcast still I think it might work, but the solo nature which I’ve gotten far too used to means it feels strange livestreaming that.

Like they aren’t really the same thing?

Without the tech issues it’s fiddly juggling mixing, chatting and responding to people, then recording the usual blocks after already mentioning what it is in the stream during the songs…It feels clunky and too much like plate-spinning while rubbing my stomach. I need to work on how the format can work as well. At the moment it’s like the shift from silent movies to talkies,

But that said, something has to change, not happy with the podcast at the moment.

Streaming in both senses (cold and live) we have a world punky mix of jungle, rave, post-rock, metal covers, indie rock, psych funk, AOR, Yacht rock and electropop Neil Young covers, IDM, arabic classical and electronica, reality child stars go DIY, Britpop, folk and new age *phew*, we say goodbye to Mike Nesmith and Steve Bronski. And hello to the Russian bots, and mourn the dearly departed wine glass during this stream. My favourite wine glass! It wasn’t just technical issues….

P.S. I found the original version of ‘Hey There Boys’ by Halyx aka ‘After The Lights Go On’ – I was confused cos the cover lyrics say ‘…Out’ but the song is called ‘…On’, a change in the Halyx version? Anyway it was written by Brock Walsh.
