Hallmighty and MarkJMix album cover mashup remix bastard pop bootleg pop

The Hallmighty & MarkJMix Album

Here’s an interesting concept (if I understand it correctly) = two producers Hallmighty & MarkJMix take the same instrumentals and acapellas and do their own versions, and the album is a mirror of itself, switching halfway through and working backwards through the previous selection with another producer.

I think there’s a lot more mileage in this, a sort of restricted 72 (which is restarting again soon, pop pickers!). It does mean a lot of Ting Tings,,,probably more Ting Tings than I’d personally like, but also Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters and Magic! and many more.

Talking of 72 and it’s pre-cursor Boot In 60 Seconds, I do find it interesting no-one has actually done what I originally planned with that, The idea was bootleg consequences – but because I didn’t put a rule that you needed to keep the instrumental left by the previous person. the producers quite often just mixed out of it. I still think there is legs in the original idea – working with restricted choices like here.

And anyone who works with modern Saint Etienne is going to get my attention – that’s rare and I love that mashup vs Ed Sheeran. Also Eagles and Sniff n’ the Tears? Get in. Also not a fan of medley mashes but the baggy-tastic ‘Early Morning Face No Good’ with Stone Roses and Ed Sheeran? channeling sea shanties and Prodigy, Wretch 32 and Dizzee Rascal popping up makes me smile.
