Karen O & Willie Nelson - Under Pressure video

Karen O & Willie Nelson – Under Pressure

I hadn’t heard this from it being released late last year, but this excellent and moving over of Queen & David Bowie’s Under Pressure by Karen ) and Willie Nelson is being released for Record Store Day.

It’s the terror of knowing
What this world is about.
Watching some good friends screaming,
“Let me out!”

I heard about this in a really weird way, Steve Lamacq was talking to the manager of a record store in Orkney and they were both surprised that this was the biggest request…I’m not. It’s an amazing cover that focuses on the lyrics rather than THAT bassline and has so much heart and caring, and it is very timely. Especially the Willie Nelson parts in the middle.

Turned away from it all like a blind man.
Sat on a fence, but it don’t work.
Keep coming up with love, but it’s so slashed and torn.
Why, why, why!?
Love, love, love, love, love.
Insanity laughs under pressure.
We’re breaking.

A lot of us has been under pressure, and there’s a lot of division – racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism and the fall out from the pandemic. PTSD everywhere….and I don’t see many prioritising those who ‘are on the edge of night’, even actually caring about themselves, caring about fairly pointless things (career, money, etc) – selfish stuff, everyday stuff. I hope the ‘new normal’ has changed things, we don’t go back to that ignorance and apathy.
