Discrimination is a new Olympic sport

A hard hitting video from Russia Freedom Fund and Athlete Ally, pointing out the many countries including Russia where to be gay can be fined, imprisoned or even killed. As Sochi begins, and even Google has a rainbow doodle in protest with a quote from the Olympic Charter: “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”, please remember this as the games begin – and those who sponsor and do not question the horrifying treatment of LGBTQ in Russia, either implicitly or explicitly.

I suspect these games there will be athletes showing their colours – literally – and protesting the host’s approach. Also strangely the faux-lesbians t.A.T.u are playing the opening ceremony, which is really odd. So fake lesbian titillation is OK, actual lesbianism is not? I really question their support of the LGBTQ community, I really do. Also this belies the hypocrisy of the standard line on promotion of homosexuality to children in Russia, and the whole Operation Pedophilia line – given they got internationally famous for pretending to be underage lesbians, why are they then playing that particular song that made them famous as the Russian athletes appear? Mixed messages or what?
