Cummings and goings

Jonathan Pie correctly sums it up – totally sweary but very justifiably so. It’s not really about who Dominic is, well a little – it couldn’t happen to a nicer man, etc. It is complete karma.

But the anger at the hypocrisy when many have suffered more and the utter contempt with the lies from Dom & co is very real across the political spectrum. Ten weeks of lockdown and people have had to struggle alone, missing funerals, family, children, and yes cope with being ill with COVID-19 and small children. Funnily enough for someone who was all about smashing elites, the grass roots public and anti-Westminster types now see HIM as the elite and the problem.

From Daily Mail to Morning Star, red faced gammons to lefty vegans, he has become persona non grata with the non-apology and whingeing use of the exact things his rabid followers usually deride others for. Use of privilege, use of identity politics and special pleading, and a (ab)use of a disabled child not seen since the days of Gordon Brown.

Anyone else but him it might have flown – well drove illegally – because hey, parenting a disabled child is hard work – but actually he has fallen into traps of his own making. The anti-SJW mob who thought he was more working class and one of them now smell Waitrose, patchouli and patronage on his breath and want blood. Those reasons won’t fly with them. And us lefties know it’s a smoke-screen, another dead cat on the table. It’s tired, cynical and desperate, and looks it. Let them eat lies!

Many have now realised what I did from the start, that the ‘we are all in it together’ was complete bollocks as some were more in it than others…and bore the brunt of this, as others just did what they pleased and then dared to suggest others were complete mugs/bad parents/point-scoring for following the spirit as well as the letter of the law. You know that outmoded idea of actually protecting vulnerable people? ‘That’s for the little people!’ And those who got fined for doing lesser things than Dom are pretty livid too – as I tweeted at these very ministers defending him on Twitter with autocue replies probably written by him – and as predicted it has already widely been used as a reason to ignore the lockdown.

You can’t respond to that, the police rule by consent and the very British and sometimes rather petty ‘rules are rules’ mentality.. But that only works if the rules are equally enforced – a bit like a riot when someone jumps a queue, people here of all classes get really angry when someone is treated different on widely agreed social or legal mores. It’s ingrained, that abiding by the rule and even spirit of the law – which sadly means true revolution is unlikely here, but it also can pull elites and upper classes down a peg or two – even our royalty pauses before crossing those lines publicly. It’s a no-go zone, tread at your peril.

People might be fine with class and privilege in the abstract, or even discretely concrete, but rub their noses in it by showing them up publicly and act irresponsibly to British society at large – well all hell breaks loose, as you can see unfolding now.

I echo Jonathan here – fuck you to all of those, especially Dominic Cummings, you have broken the lockdown, broken a fragile trust and put people at risk and then was like ‘I don’t care’. Not since Thatcher’s disastrous ‘there is no society’ has someone caused so much harm at a time of great need with their utter contempt for this country and the people within it.

May you grow to regret that ‘eye test drive’ you arrogant elitist prick, and I hold any second wave accountable on your ugly bobble-hatted head, along with BoJo the clown and the ministers who have not just fumbled the ball, they have lost it and are now denying there was a ball in the first place.
