The Racism Game – Baratunde Thurston TED Talk

Amazing, funny and thought-provoking look at how racism is reported by Baratunde Thurston, but also how we can flip the script, and change the system by each of our actions.

How gentrification and white (and usually cis/straight) fears lead to ‘drone strikes’ on those who look or act different, but that it doesn’t have to be this way, Well worth a watch.

The whole thing about walking on eggshells resonates with me as a queer person, because ‘walking while black’ is probably more likely to get an armed response or major aggro, ‘walking while queer/trans/LGBT’ can have similar results for us as well. It’s part of the same problem, of power and patriarchy, of a majority so paranoid about their scraps of privilege going away that they attack others in fear. When in fact those minority people actually don’t have the power to do that. It’s those with much more power, the banks, the governments, the politicians, the corporates who are selling us all down the river.

But they encourage this separation and infighting, because it suits their interests, divide and conquer. See Brexit, see Trump, see all the bad in the world at the moment. Powerful interests wanting to keep people separate and blaming each other.

Unity isn’t just a random phrase or slogan, it’s essential if we are to survive what is to come.
