Sad to hear of the death of Jean Jacques Perrey – synth and electronica pioneer, and creator of some very mad, funny and whimsical tunes. The curse of 2016 strikes again!
Many don’t know I did two DJNoNo mashups using Perrey 10 years ago, probably because I made them for my old Multiply site and never reposted them after, although they’ve been sitting on my site’s player for years. I have a hatred of ‘memorial’ bootlegs, but these were made and released a long time ago, so I hope this doesn’t seem as jumping on a bandwagon, and more an introduction to the man’s music…
They are both bootlegs of Snoop Dogg’s Drop it Like It’s Hot – the first is Moog It Like It’s Hot which used the classic Moog Indigo, the original is here:
And the second is Snoop Duck, using Jean Jacques Perrey & David Chazan – What’s Up Duck. He did a lot of collaborations, like the image of this post with Dana Countryman. Here again in original form:
And even the first video of this post has a mashup reason – I tried and failed to create a Missy Gossip Folks vs JJP’s Gossip Perpetuo! His music is never that far away, I wished I’d created more mashups with it.
