On a real new music kick inspired by Record Store day, so playing catchup on from the triangle post, Evian Christ aka Joshua Leary leads on rather nicely – being signed to that label. Apparently earlier in the year this UK producer just uploaded several videos taking the yawn/irksome Chris Brown and Tyga’s Snapbacks Back and forming whole symphonies out of fragments from the acapella. It starts out very 2010 witch house, but then goes all epic on you…very nice. And yes it’s the only time Chris Brown will be in this blog, despite Rihanna being all forgiving, I don’t easily forgive men who beat women (or any partner of any gender tbh).
If you like this I recommend Babe Rainbow, Salem, Weeknd, and Wobbly – they all surf that chilled gangsta/rnb ambient vibe, and share I think a common ancestor lost in the mists of time.
Also the video by 01100111 has severe dejavu for me too – it’s NSFW with the (super-8?) stripper but false colouring and using shots from buses of graffiti/shop fronts and using old stripper footage – well my VJ work from Sheffield in 1995 was all over that shizzle! Nice to be strangely, err, current…I must say I do love the chillwave/witch house and related videos with their obsession with 80’s and VHS and lo-fi. Makes a change from the usual sneeriness about non-HD and super-high-quality techsnobs.
