Boycott Sochi

You might have heard about the violence against LGBTQ in Russia but I doubt most of you have seen it. In this disturbing video by the HRC you can see what actually happens and hear from the people who have been attacked and ignored.

Also I’ve not watched the Dispatches Channel 4 documentary Hunted yet but it goes into Russian homophobia – usually under the pretence of ‘saving children’ but in these cases the victims are not asked about children or paedophilia. These are fascists and the paedophilia, as with the anti-promotion laws in Russia, are a smoke screen.

The sad thing is that Sochi Winter Olympics is shortly going ahead, and that sponsors like Coke seem happy to pay to be involved with an Olympics in a part of the world that treats LGBTQ as second class citizens. I have a sad feeling this will only change if somebody dies and it’s filmed and posted, or the inevitable happens that the LGBTQ in Russia track back to the fascists and do the same to them, Taxi Driver style. I have a suspicion the LGBTQ would be prosecuted and the fascists not…

So I will be ignoring Sochi, and I hope you do too…as much as you want some Z-List celeb injured on The Jump 😉
