Burial ANTIDAWN cover and Space Cadet

Burial – ANTIDAWN / Space Cadet

Better late than never – checking out some releases I missed and somehow Burial released an EP in January called ANTIDAWN and I missed it (listeners of Radio Clash will know I actually checked back in December for the traditional Xmas release and was surprised there was none)?

Strange name, given than I am listening to this as the sun comes up and it’s perfect – especially the song ‘New Love’. and “Upstairs Flat’. I know some sad sacks mourn the moody unhappy Burial of the early releases, but I for one am glad that Will seems to be happier – at least in the music.

There is far too much ‘sonic cathedral’-esque amateur music critic bollocks written about Burial, and I refuse to add to that pile – but if you like deep meaningful heavy electronica/ambience, or joyful exuberance that isn’t cheesy and like a contact high, this will be your thing in spades.

It’s very much music for a specific mood or time – but what a time and what a mood. And those moods have changed since Untrue came out.

Another I found I missed from 2021 a split EP with Blackdown called Shock Power Of Love is the blissful beat-heavy track called Space Cadet. Appropriate name, it’s a very tripped out upbeat space journey….I know chin-stroky Burial stans quite often don’t like the tracks with beats, hissing Judas like the bloke at the Manchester Free Trade Hall when Dylan went electric….but I love some of them, like this one.

It feels like an update sequel to ‘Come Down To Us’ – in fact pretty sure on one of the tracks on ANTIDAWN I heard the same repeating sound from the Rival Dealer EP, tying it in nicely.

BTW the Rival Dealer EP has never left my iPod. since it came out. 10/10, like these tracks.
