The William Maranci album

William Maranci has just released a mashup album – called The William Maranci Album funnily enough! (yes we are cool now if you didn’t know) and liking some of the less trodden selections here.

‘Sins/Tragedies Song’ which is the not-often mashed enough Aphex Twin vs Panic! At The Disco is a fave, as is ‘Lopez’ using War vs The Jerky Boys and Family Guy – and Bohemian Wapsody – Queen vs Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion which is fast becoming a modern classic. My Jeep – Numan vs Black Eyed Peas is funny also, chopping up My Humps for lulz has been done before but I didn’t expect this – ‘weird flex but OK’ as ver kids say!

But I think the biggest surprise is the first track ‘The Law’ which doesn’t sound like an obvious mashup, apart from that glitching Led Zeppelin break which I should have identified….With bits mixed in like Linkin Park, Björk, Insane Clown Posse, Youtube Copyright School (!), Outback Steakhouse ad (?), Green Day, Eagles, Don Henley testifying before Congress (!), Van Halen ….(it sez here).

Guessing it is a musing on copyright law – given Don is less than cuddly with sampling and I have had the Youtube Copyright School enforced on myself as well, and that ‘This is how the law works’ sample. It wouldn’t be amiss on 2000’s Droplift Project or the Snuggles list.

I like things I haven’t heard before and this definitely fits. I would have not spotted most of those track IDs, and I like that Bomb Squad/Go Team/Avanlanches wall of sampled sound thing where you’re not exactly sure what is what, a more experimental approach. More please!
