“I think a lot of art and creative material is to remind us what is right under our noses and we forget or we lose touch with it”
Mike Reid
Mike Reid’s song ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ is stunning, most famously covered by Bonnie Raitt, Adele and George Michael – you’d know that listening to the latest podcast because I declared the George version the best along with Bonnie’s after listening to every single cover I could find online of it. I mean every one!
Interesting to find out he started out as a professional football player, and the history of the song and the creative process, from a Dutch TV piece on him (via Carolynn Ní Lochlainn)
But what I find most inspiring is what he says quoted above, that artists and writers are best getting their ideas from outside themselves. They need to listen and watch the world around them, and reflect that. That the most important things are usually right under our noses.
