Home Is Where The Hatred Is

‘Little’ Esther Phillips had been the same place Gil had battling addiction, which is why her searing cover of ‘Home Is Where The Hatred’ is stands up to the original. Apparently she was up for a Grammy that year, Aretha Franklin won it, then gave it to Esther saying she was the best vocalist that year. Bless.

She died of drug-related liver failure at the age of 48 – sadly echoes what happened to Whitney and Amy. Why do we have to lose such talent to addiction? Makes me angry, as well as sad.
