Orville Peck (not his real name), *And breathe*... This channels Roy Orbison meets John Grant via Lana Del Rey so much I am stanning like crazy. Not too hot on the main song, but Roses Are Falling featured in a fever dream middle sequence is pure genius. Had to check it wasn't a cover, it's got that classic Orbison sound off pat. It's been described as 'goth country' and I get that, there is a wonky dark country feel, but then again anyone calling this anything but country has missed most of Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash's career. Full of this stuff. The truly new thing is out artists like Lil Nas X (who is a SUPERSTAR and lovely man, check the link) and Orville being out and queer in video and subject matter. Like the video and song for 'Dead of Night', taking country into the 21st century and blasting those queer and colour bars off the country jail and taking off for the hills. https://youtu.be/q3esGD6lcMM P.S. Someone was taking a lot of notes during El Topo, Paris Texas AND the Chicken Ranch documentary for that last video...which is great to see. Psychedelic westerns FTW! I love how Orville is portrayed as more like the Lonely Ranger, there to help when people need support. Less shooting and horse-riding and more empathy and love across all types of people. Maybe he is the hero we need today?
