I have been listening to a lot of Dandelion Radio in the last few months, especially their Festive 50 and December/January shows which a chock full of music I missed in 2020. Also I love some of the presenters on 6Music but it gets a little too nostalgic music-wise and frankly I don't want to hear the news reports anymore! They just make me sad or upset. So a digital radio station is ideal. Also BBC radio cannot get away with playing The Kunts unedited! I want to hear rude, angry, political, challenging music that reflects the way I am feeling, not the prelockdown usual and industry flattery. Indie is the way forward! So a recent discovery via Dandelion is The Clockworks, an Irish band signed to Creation23, Alan McGee's label. with their politically charged punk of 'Enough Is Never Enough' with it's Nancy Sinatra 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' steal which as we know has punk lineage. And the poppier track that seems to reflect mordern times, 'The Future Is Not What It Was' - indeed. Even the footage of them touring feels like a past age, bittersweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vL29ctb5B-s0 Between these guys, IDLES, new wavers and 6Music darlings Dry Cleaning, The Kunts and several others I am keeping under wraps for the next podcast, the future's maybe not what it was, but the kids are alright as we bunker down from the pandemic, Brexit and the rest. I vote for a black & white punk revival. Well punk isn't the right term, as it seems to be politically and angrily motivated music blending divides of race and genre. I'm sure like with buses, any moment a few iterant music critics that have lost their dead-tree jobs will be along shortly to name it. Talking of which the Dry Cleaning video is rather good too, and the song reminds me of adult education and the weirdness of evening classes.
