...and while we're at it, US embassy and others pay your congestion charge bills! One of the reasons I didn't go with Vodafone with my new mobile phone contract is that they recently avoided 6 BILLION POUNDS in UK taxes - a decision by George Osborne, typical for the Tories to protect their own, big corporates and banks and attack the poor and those on benefits with 7bn worth in cuts. Cause enough for a Vodafone boycott, hit them where it hurts. Oh and nice work there police - 'we're manhandling you so you won't get hurt from the shutters we activated!' - usual logic FAIL from the Met Police... Even if you only count illegal tax evasion rather than getting your mates to give a free ride (did Vodafone donate to the Tory election fund I wonder?) the statistics are stark. Estimated £5bn in benefits cheating or errors, whereas non-dom and ethically or legally dodgy tax evasion costs the state 10-15 times that (or more) at an estimated 42-50 BILLION to 120bn! So guess who the Tories are publicly going after, and which ones the blundering HMRC are told to leave? Yup, the classic bugbear the benefits 'scrounger' - even though white collar crime would net far more even if they reclaimed a 5th back...but they tend to have nasty lawyers and not pay your election funds next time. Funny that...although signs from Danny Alexander & co. recently sound a little better I'm doubtful they will have the power or go-ahead to do much (this is the only time I would say that re: the HMRC, usually the tax inspector finds squishing bugs, torturing kittens and victimising workers a far more easier task). Can I get a mass eyeroll? Really the Fire Brigade strike on Nov 5th is the tip of the iceberg...and this so-called GDP blip is before any of the cuts have bitten, business people and major economists are warning already not to get too comfy and complacent...2011 is going to be the year of unemployment and strikes, and I think recession. This is just the eye of the storm.
