Two very apocalyptic love/hate mashups about my manor…London, and part of a series called BabyLondon

So had to do something with 808 State as both Quadrastate and 90 (both of which I own, on vinyl and cassette respectively) were released in 1989, and back then I was all over 808 State after Pacific State – but I felt Pacific State is rather overmashed now and couldn’t get anything to work – that saxophone!…but oddly I think they sampled themselves via Pacific State strings in this track? It’s almost a remix…
My other favourite track off 90 is the very squelchy Donkey Doctor which has the sample ‘Welcome To Techno City’ which reminded me of Welcome To London by Flow Dan (lyrics even mention ‘mash up’ tangentially) – what’s more London than grime? Nuffink…so I turned it into a mashup about my manor, London. Which is odd cos 808 State are Mancunian, but then again so I am I….so it tracks as a Manc in the Big Smoke.
It’s not exactly the tourist view of my home city, I have a love/hate relationship with LDN, it’s quite exclusionary if indeed ‘You need P’s in my city ’cause its not cheap, Top quality has never been a guarantee, We’ll extort you, your friends and family’ – quite.
And yes…I do live by the river!
Welcome To London, Colin (The Clash vs Flowdan vs Pet Shop Boys vs 808 State)
I was listening to the new Bob Vylan single ‘Dream Big’ and it totally reminded me of Babylon Burning – so much so it’s exactly the same BPM and only 1 semitone difference…LOL.
So Captain Obvious had to do a quick mash with some propah jungle bizness, had fun doing a rock vs jungle vs grime/punk thing as Dream Big has a classic jungle break – I hear it’s making a comeback? 😉
And this is Part 2 of my BabyLondon series – the first was Welcome To London, Colin! Both London artists, a similar doomy vibe…iWillBattle gave this the ultimate compliment, that he preferred it to the original – for a fellow Vylan stan, that’s praise indeed.
