No not a mashup – it’s only taken 4 decades but Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys collaborate with a track called Purple Zone. I’m guessing from the lyrics Marc Almond took more of a lead, but then again the backing sounds like classic Pet Shop Boys/Chris Lowe (keeping a ‘Lowe’ profile in this video, even for him).
So it’s hard to tell who did what. More collabs like this! Also I see Pet Shop Boys are playing Glasto, so would not be surprised if Marc and Dave are guests on this song.
I’m guessing this is a precursor to *Happiness Not Included – the new Soft Cell album out in May. I went to their 40th ‘retirement’ gig, where they said they’d not do this again? More retirements than Bette Midler at this rate! I was surprised when they announced an album, was not expecting that.
