It seems the lockdown is now paying major dividends – another new(ish) release is this album from Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer ‘A Thoroughly Modern Existential Crisis’ about COVID-19 and the state of the nation. Particularly like the live-streaming ode ‘Live Stream for One’ – been there, done that (remember Radio Clash Live! – my ill-fated live podcasting around 2007-8? something I talked about in my Masters of Mash interview which you can still watch).
And ‘This House’ a mellotron, banjo and cello criticism of false nostalgia – it is nagaiutb* in song form! There are also some nice crafty steals across the album which I won’t mention by name cos it might get but fans of a certain Liverpudlian band, 80’s bands and WW2 nostalgia will giggle.
As well as Fibs on the Buses is also about a certain bus-painting man and his lies, but has a sort of 60’s ‘On The Buses’ jazz feel. we have Wipe To Beige which is about our new romance with toilet roll (see what I did there?). An album for the times!
* GYBO slang for not as good as it used to be, and no I’m not being nostalgic for those days…however ironic that would be.
