Phew another Crumplstock is over! Friday night to Early Monday, nearly 40 artists, streaming most of that. I found myself having to bail on Saturday after listening for 12 hours (I really wanted to stay up and hear Dan Untitled and MsMiep), and was listening til the bitter end a few hours ago on Sunday night. I wish I'd listened to more of the acts on Friday (eating) and early Sunday (sleeping!). Like a proper festival it's rather overwhelming, so let me guide you to my highlights. The motto of the Crumplstock weekend seemed to be summed up during Travis Not-I's set when he first started with beeping noises and 'What is wrong with this thing?' - sure Crumplstock like ANY livestreaming event has tech issues - usually one or two people have problems. This year it seemed rather more I'm not sure the first set of Crumplstock on Friday happened at all - Scott Cairo's one, apparently only could be heard in New Zealand which is a new one. This will be a common theme... Ah!s video set did take place, and is really good - despite the big chunk taken out as sacrifice to the CopyGods. Love the Simpsons intro, and really liked the Dua LIpa vs Smashing Pumpkins, and the Police Academy Gay Bar sequence (I would). and the political intro. Now on Archive.org for all posterity! That was followed by another of the successful sets, iWillBattle's retro 50s/60s Mashup DJ Set with high production values - specially recorded video and intros! Breaks, airhorns, meep meeps, guitars, madness. Even a heavy metal mashup of Ultravox's Vienna makes an appearance! And chipmunk a-ha vs Van McCoy, Love the Bowie vs Radiohead, that's genius - Rock & Roll Suicide Creep. That's a keeper. I did manage to tune in later, and as someone couldn't DJ at short notice so DJ Empirical stepped in - space disco, cosmic disco, hi-NRG, really good, some very deep dives into those genres. We also had dub sets and mashup video sets closing out the Friday. I was one of the early DJs on Saturday but not as early as Marty Batfreak who did a set of classic old-skool mashups deep diving the Bootleg Archive (but sounds like he also had tech gremlins as well. oki was a few slots before me and featured his Cameo Louie mashup amongst others, and a really nice Tears for Fears vs Wicked Game mashup, which I missed in the faff getting ready for my set but caught up with later. Sadly the copyhamsters got to this mix and bit a chunk out of it...;I hope to hear those tracks later. The Frankie Goes To Hollywood reggae mix is really nice as well...very chilled. I posted downloads and links to my set yesterday and after my set was a great set by Dunproofin - various mashup artists and some Dun classics - again not saved, but it was like a mashup set version of his regular Spin sets, which you should definitely check out at his Twitch. - Fridays and Saturday nights is when he streams. Then pomDeter, (orgnaniser of Crumplstock) did a live vinyl mashup set - again not online but hopefully he'll post it somewhere. And next up was PimpDaddySupreme with insane set mashups, breakcore madness, grindcore and pizza! Let It Get WEIRD - if you listen to PDS's regular streams you'll know what to expect, but this was more mashup focused than his other sets. CTFX aka Rudec had streaming gremlins and actually DJ'd on the Sunday so PDS got a double extended set. Boogie Down Under - the name is very accurate, funky hiphop from Australia with this set which they couldn't get to sream over Twitch so we watched over Facebook which can get a bit mutey (some of these sets have already got muted parts so listen ASAP). They did a crazy purple and green themed Fruity Loops? set while wearing green safety goggles...it's to be seen to be believed and is utterly insane, and so is total genius. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vO12Sb9gOGrc EDIT: now heard the Dan Untitled & MsMiep mix which ended Saturday, and it's total genius - this video explains it far better, but taking Marc-Antoine Charpentier's modes from 1682 and adding the missing ones, and then creating new keywords, and making a set around that...wow.. I like the 'Single and American' and Personal & Red' so far. Download here. https://vimeo.com/568321849 Starting Sunday, Lee Spoons did a classic bastard pop set - particularly liked his Teardrop vs drum and bass - he's no stranger to mashing up Teardrop but like the feel of that, and then turning Joe Jackson's Stepping Out into a Jungle track! Wow. Very Crumpl. Apparently judging from the chat, it's a new track...I look forward to that one beng posted. And the Tyree Cooper vs Sarah Brightman? *chef's kiss* and the Matchstalk Men track - one of the best sets of the whole festival. I liked the Pink Floyd covers/mashups - I suggested he try doing my Green Day vs Pink Floyd mashup. Are their cameras faulty?).
