Dismantle the Metropolitan Police

This video projected on New Scotland Yard by Led By Donkeys says everything about Metropolitan Police corruption, violence and bigotry I’ve been saying since 2009 if not before. Certainly the likes of Ian Tomlinson and Jean Charles De Menenez, as mentioned in the video were a wake up call for me, as well as few of my personal interactions showing the utter hatred of the law-abiding public their officers have.

I am fast coming to the conclusion that it now needs radical reform – it needs to be defunded and broken up, we have to divest and dismantle the Met and start again.

The majority of Londoners now do not trust the police, we see them as corrupt, bigoted and dangerous after the likes of Sarah Everard and the amazingly deaf response to the protests, the toxic WhatsApp groups and taking photos of dead women.

And don’t get me started on Child Q, what happened to her was a shocking abuse of power and illegal, police can’t strip search minors without just cause and a parent or teacher present. And I’m glad they pulled out of London Pride this year – they would have been booed after all that and the Stephen Port case. The fact that they pushed the issue of marching right up to a few days before Pride In London made the correct call without listening to us LGBTQ*, is really offensive.

Again and again, as this video shows, they employ a Commissioner who promises reform but then immediately it’s back to the boy’s club and business as usual. The Metropolitan Police is failing and currently in ‘special measures’ because it won’t actually face up to any of this, running from scandal to scandal like a headless chicken.

There is total lack of accountability in the Metropolitan Police – with offending officers usually at most being asked to leave the force, and only in a few rare cases do they ever see jail time for their crimes after a massive uproar and mass protests. And even then (see the slap on the wrist for the killers of Jean Charles De Menenez, or the killer of Ian Tomlinson who got off after first not even wanting to prosecute him, or indeed the killer(s) of Blair Peach iback n the 1970’s whose crimes got covered up).

We are back to pre-Peel times. London needs a police force that works FOR the community rather than constantly attacking it (and covering up partygate for, or lying about politicians in plebgate). They famously say they police by consent of the public, but the consent is lacking in how they treat the public – with utterly shocking contempt.

Corrupt, arrogant, bigoted, violent and dangerous – the police in London sadly and for a long time have lived up to the old motto of ACAB – All Cops Are Bastards.

Time to for the Metropolitan Police to go.
