One of my favourite mashups from french mashup artist Minor Arth is a disco take on the French version of the Ulysses 31 theme by Lionel Leroy vs Stayin Alive by the Bee Gees. I featured his mashup on podcast #355 back in 2021.
And now it has a discotastic Ulysses 31 video with extra Daft Punk (which was definitely inspired by Ulysses 31 and other similar Japanese productions of the time!). I am fascinated at how the French version differs in more disco funk style, yet also had a lot of similarities to the OTT English ‘power ballad’ version I know..
Fact fans: it’s well known that fans and kids sang along with the theme song – even occasionally accompanied by the broom cupboard directing itt – but I’m not sure if I ever said what lyrics I sang?
I always sang ‘Ulysses, no-one cares about the things you do, like a polar bear from the blue (?) – always fighting other people’s horses, bringing boring justice to all!’.
I loved it really.
