Bob James on those that sampled him

Ian Fondue directed me to this video with legend Bob James – creator of classic and much-sampled tracks like Nautilus, Angela, Westchester Lady, Take Me To The Mardi Gras – those RunDMC bells and many others. It’s an advert for a sample clearing service Tracklib but fascinating having him talk about these samples – and shame he didn’t share some of the credit and proceeds. He’s a really cool dude.

Also he was on Let The Record Show a few years back doing a similar deep dive on records that sampled him:

And PomDeter also contributed this fascinating new video with the excellent 9th Wonder – yes he is the Mount Rushmore of sampling, definitely up there with David Axelrod and James Brown. And 9th Wonder working with Bob James? YES PLEASE.
