Love this video from the excellent Jonathan Pie, and completely on the money. For the record I support Extinction Rebellion – their stunts and actions are really good, and they have I think a fairly wide support. Yes some people found it difficult to travel in London, but really people don’t have the right to criticise (apart from the few dumb attacks on public transport, we want to encourage that, I’m guessing it was a few rogue elements in the movement not thinking it through).

Why do those people not have the right to criticise? Well as I ranted on at the pub after my life drawing today: if you ignore the peaceful protesters – I’ve been on the odd Climate Change march that barely received coverage – then you can’t complain when people up the civil disobedience to get attention. You can’t have it both ways in a democracy, people don’t just disappear cos you don’t like what they are saying – that works for gammons and yellow vests as it does XR and gay Pride marches.

XR has decided that getting people arrested, US Civil Rights style is the way forward for minor offences like blocking a bridge or minor property damage. Good on them, unlike the fascists or gammons they aren’t attacking people, but weird how those in power care more about things isn’t it? Proves the protesters point really, that ‘business as usual’ is more important than human life, let alone the other species.

Because at the end of the day – or the end of humanity as we know it – we have 12-20 years before it goes south, before most if not all of the species we rely on in the food chain are gone, before food runs out and the seas rise at serious levels. And it’s mostly avoidable if we ACT NOW. There isn’t any time to argue and the longer we take the harder it will be.
