You need to watch this video, it shouldn’t take 28 years like Hillsborough to get justice for those who died and survived the fire at Grenfell Tower. It IS a crime, heads SHOULD roll for this disaster, and the terrible response afterwards. Basically this is a Tory council who prioritised a £100 rebate for residents over the £5,000 for fire-proof cladding and installed the illegal flammable version, and ignored those living in Grenfell when they repeatedly raised concerns. Tories who cut ‘red tape’ health and safety going back to the Thatcher era, and cut firefighters and public services. They like to say ‘Labour started this cladding craze’ and point to Blair’s government but after 7 years of austerity and many decades of ‘cutting red tape’ that protected people, and with a Tory MP and Tory council, I can’t really see how the buck stops with Labour, especially as Labour councillors and the new MP have been raising these issues for years and been ignored by the management company and council. Or indeed have similar legislation voted down.
And indeed the Tories and their new homophobic friends the DUP just voted to not increase the wages of firefighters, nurses and police – those brave people they praised and posed with during the last 4 weeks at various tragedies, but won’t pay them any more? They are truly the Nasty Party as the number of dead rises to 80, from a 6 month old baby to a 67 year old man. And they can’t even guess the correct figure because of lack of records of who exactly was in the flat that night, and cos the fire raged so hot, not much is going to be left of some people – only ashes and maybe teeth or bones.
We need Justice for Grenfell, and justice for all that are suffering under austerity and cuts caused by this government, especially those who are helping people but aren’t getting helped themselves. And those who were criminally negligent on the Kensington & Chelsea Management Company and Kensington & Chelsea Council and/or the building firms should be charged with manslaughter – if they think this will go away, they are very mistaken. I just hope it doesn’t take another 28 years.
