San Francisco Disco Preservation Society - picture of many tapes

San Francisco Disco Preservation Society

DJ Jim Hopkins as the San Francisco Disco Preservation Society is preserving the 80’s and 90’s club history of San Francisco by digitising and posting cassettes and reel-to-reel tape of DJ mixes. It’s a fascinating look into gay and club culture of the past, and briefly listening to a few mixes in the 80’s section they are definite keepers, ahead of their time and sounding oddly current now.

Everyone should check these out, 80’s Archive and the 90’s Archive they are downloadable too…or read more at SFist. I’d love something like this for London, especially the queer scene. (via Lady Bear)

EDIT: I was wishing for a 70’s selection, and my wish has come true! Thanks to Eugene to pointing that out. I have a LOT of listening to do…
