I’ve been collecting my photos for various exhibitions and competitions – the latest was this competition by Olympus, which looking at the quality and the type of photographs (in order, bad, and cheesy chocolate box) got me posting over a hundred pictures to Instagram of what I think Britain is, and what I find interesting, beautiful or just needs to be said about my homeland.
So that has become Flagtowns, a sort of online gallery and maybe book project. It’s culled from 4 years of photos, but mostly that odd period 2011-12, of Royal Weddings, Jubilees and Olympics (ironic since the competition was for Japanese camera manufacturer Olympus). You can see more photos at my Flickr, and bettee quality than Instagram who compresses the photos to shit. I mean check out what it did to my poor Pier photo you can see above.
It’s a very strange place to have a photo competition, like hosting a raffle in an abattoir.
