It’s strange, Ireland seems so ahead in many ways, like Scotland. But like Scotland it lags in the marriage equality front – in fact Scotland now has same-sex marriage but Ireland is still debating it, with a vote on May 22nd. Now that Northern Ireland has rejected same-sex marriage for the fourth time, I do wonder what’s going on over there? The home of Oscar Wilde and the Ladies of Llangollen deserves so much better.
This remarkable video from Riyadh K sums it up well – something about seeing someone asking for equal rights in the very park where someone was beaten to death for their sexuality that strikes home. And I personally think Ireland – home of so much culture despite being mocked for so long – is far better than that.
