Slaves and the NME Award Tour

Talking of the NME Awards, I had a great one* I knew Wytches and Fat White Family were ace, heavier in form this time around, it was comical watching ver kids try to mosh to sludge ‘surf doom’ as some hack calls it, but discovery of the night was Slaves. Initially I was unsure, but by the end they blew me away and made me dance like a loon…loved Where The Car Debbie?, Feed the Mantaray which oddly reminded me of Rock Lobster via Essex, Hey and The Hunter, but my favourite I don’t think has been released yet, the socially conscious one in the vein of The Hunter with the lyric ‘Why would you let them take you hands?’ – I suspect this might be from or be the track ‘Are You Satisfied?’…the album is released on June – why so long? That’s AGES!

Also like Sleaford Mods it’s quite interesting to hark back to the likes of Fat Truckers and those early 00’s XFM bands combining spoken word/rap/ranting with rock – usually rumoured to be some Streets off-shoot…or Richard X. Not a bad thing to come back, at all!

* Apart from the entitled ‘Emily’ ‘neo-starchild’ whose flowing hair while running by caught my hand and knocked my recently purchased drink to the ground, then not only accused me of ‘grabbing her hair’ (umm, my reflexes are not that fast?), she ran into the toilet when I asked to buy me a new one. Fuck you! I noticed this strangeness at Glastonbury last year, upper middle class millennial girls with flowers in their hair, hippy floral print dresses going to Clean Bandit but missed the memo about peace and love stuff. They would happily elbow you into the mud to get to their mates.

I saw her later heading for the mosh pit during Fat White. I rarely wish harm on anyone, but I hope she go hurt. Those kids WILL tear you apart, if you pull that shit!
