Rules for women and Jay Smooth’s philosophy

Love the philosophy and thoughts from Jay Smooth, and his excellent channel, well worth checking out. It’s worrying how certain ‘fedora’ atheists/cynics seem to treat women online, the Men’s Rights lot – and how they want to regulate those who aren’t like them – from women to the LGBTQ. Worried mostly because they are the millennials that SHOULD be making it right, should be more switched on about this shit than say, my generation currently are. They should be showing US up, rather than retrogressing into a 1950’s style rape excuse culture. (thanks to Pete Chvany for pointing me in the direction of this video)

And love this response to Don Lemon, which responds to the Trayvon Martin ‘hoody’ debate, and reminds me of that pernicious Broken Windows myth, which is very pertinent in the light of Ferguson, how people are blamed and shamed by respectability politics:

And this video just details as a podcaster, DJ and a mashup artist about the problem of creating content. I call it the Candy Problem, I’ve mentioned it on the podcast about ‘here comes the Candy – this is the Candy’ – that’s the second ‘Little Hater’, and quite often I apologise far too much for being eclectic, ranty, esoteric or just being plain geeky. It all comes from that Candy vs Content dilemma – the Cat Videos vs The Manifesto, the problem of losing people by being too intense, detailed or political. I mostly say ‘fuck it’ and go for the latter, although I always put in some musical or video candy for those who just want shiny. But really, that’s a short term gain, because they’re all about Gaga or K-Pop or Bieber that month, and then they go away. I find focusing on what I like, what I’m passionate about is better for me, and more likely to transfer that passion, rather than second-guessing what others MIGHT like.

But then again, I’m not that successful so…:-/
