Sitting while black

A lot of conversations have happened since Ferguson and the murder of Michael Brown (and Eric Garner and the rest) about ‘Walking While Black’ (and quite a few about ‘Walking While Trans’ and other minorities) – people getting grief from cops that white cis straight people simply would not get. Not to mention the mealy-mouthed ‘It wasn’t us!’ response from the police who allowed police dogs to urinate on the Michael Brown memorial then drove their vehicles over it. Hmm, I have no idea why people might be a little mad.

This video from musician Christopher Lollie, only posted now because apparently they confiscated his phones for 6 months, of him getting approached by cops because he was sitting in an unmarked ‘restricted’ area is a new one – Sitting While Black. He then tased in front of his kids, and the cops got violent even though you can see from the video he wasn’t being aggressive, but knew his rights.

You can hear him during the video constantly asking ‘what am I going to jail for?’ and not getting an answer – and no surprise all charges were dropped. But not until the St. Paul police department said that the officer attacked him because he “believed he might either run or fight with them.” and usual weasel words about the video not showing what happened before. There is no sign of that, there is sign of a cop (Schmidt?) escalating the situation intentionally because he wanted to be all Alpha Pig Bad Cop. That man should not be a police officer.

And the shouts of the man asking why and saying his kids were right there and pleading to be let go is heartbreaking…and shows you racism and ‘I Am AuthoritAY’ bullshit from cops. ACAB indeed.
