Love this video by the Doubleclicks called Nothing to Prove, which I found via the comments on this excellent Hijinks Ensue comic (which indeed is about identifying geeks). I think it needs to be said, there are probably almost no fake girl geeks – but if there are, I doubt in that subculture there are that many and it’s shitty to treat others as not being worthy whoever they are. And quite often those who are deemed fake are just n00bs, and everyone starts there, right?
I should know, first impressions can be very deceptive, and it’s easy to judge. Most non-LGBTQ can’t even figure I’m gay (beard throws them off). It’s far more fun to be surprised though, and find out someone you don’t expect is really into what you love. That’s a great thing, so really strange why people might be defensive or ‘phobic about it…I guess sometimes it’s ignorance, but it’s a dull world if you expect everyone to be just like you.
