Have to say Jack Andraka is such an inspiration – I’d heard that he’d invented a test for cancer at age 15, but didn’t know he was out and gay and is a fan of Turing. And now is targeting the eJournals and academic institutions to improve or provide open access…I hope he suceeds where Aaron Schwartz failed, because he’s a sign of what’s to come – people who don’t do it the ‘approved’ way.
I think there will be many more examples of this in the Millennial generation who always have known the internet – and then break the doors down to work on their ideas, and show that the old way of academic patronage and corporations isn’t really working. Certainly a cure for cancer hasn’t happened yet…only worry is that his invention will get lost in that expensive Big Pharma maze and be stopped for reasons of profit. (video via Andy Churchill)
