Hip hop is about voice, not the actually speech itself so much but the reality, the truth spoken, concise, cold water to the face. Same goes for poetry, it resonates like a sounding board when done well. It’s why hip hop came from poetry (Last Poets et al) and they go hand in hand. I love this great spoken word by Farida Momtaz over Drake’s ‘Marvin’s Room’, much realness as they say, and I can hear the voice loud and clear. Talented, I hope she keeps on, keeps writing and goes far. Jarvis Cocker should play this on the Sunday Service. (sent to me via Twitter)
